Medical Assistant Student Scholarships

Texas Society of Medical Assistants (TSMA) is a tri-level professional organization serving local, state and national members in the medical assisting field of medicine. The American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) is our governing body. The AAMA provides certification as well as continuing educations and other services to its members. Student medical assistants, as well as other professionals, are welcome to join AAMA.

What is the Texas Society of Medical Assistants Student Scholarship?
This program has been established for the purpose of providing educational assistance to deserving medical assistant students. The scholarship fund is supported entirely by TSMA members and private contributions.

Who is eligible to apply?
Current student members of AAMA enrolled in and having completed a minimum of one quarter or semester at a postsecondary medical assisting program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) and having a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

How are scholarships awarded?
The scholarship committee reviews all applications. The selection depends on the applicant’s essay, most recent transcripts, and letter of reference.

Where are applications obtained? Applications are available only from CAAHEP and ABHES accredited medical assisting program directors.

Deadline for Receipt of Applications: March 15, 2023, for Spring semester of 2023.

Send the following documents. (Applicants with incomplete information or missing attachments will not be considered. Please do not send documents that have been stapled together.)

  • Your completed application. 
  • Your most recent transcript(s)
  • A letter of reference addressed to the TSMA Committee, from a medical assisting instructor or someone other than a family member

Scholarship(s) will be awarded by May 2023. Please be prepared to submit a color photo to be used for publicity if you are chosen as a scholarship recipient. (Do not send the photo with this application.)

TSMA was founded in 1957.

TSMA is offering a scholarship to 2 deserving current AAMA student members to assist with education expenses. The scholarship fund is supported by TSMA members and private contributions.

This scholarship will be awarded at the TSMA 66th Conference. It is requested that the winner be present at the banquet on Friday, May 19th through 21st of 2023. Please contact either one of the co-chairs regarding arrangements for the student to attend the banquet and receive the scholarship.

TSMA encourages maintaining current certification and continuing education.
